I am writing about your coverage of the protests in Rangoon (“The Monks’ Uprising,” Oct. 8). The military regime in Burma should hand over the government to the elected leaders. They cannot keep brutalizing people. In the 1988 protests, 3,000 citizens were killed. And for the past 11 years, Aung San Suu Kyi, an elected leader and a Nobel Prize winner, has lived under house arrest, completely isolated, except for a maid, a doctor’s monthly visits and her jailers....
Looking at how former president Bill Clinton would affect a Hillary Clinton presidency is compelling (“His New Role,” May 28). The relevant question one would ask is: do you feel better about the way the country is going now as opposed to the Clinton years? There is much to be said about the economic expansion and the other accomplishments of Bill Clinton’s administration. Policy matters are much more important than personal issues, and I for one would love to go back to those days after what the Bush administration has done to our country....
Healing the World The stories of children suffering from AIDS and malaria in Africa (“How to Heal the World,” Oct. 1) are as heartbreaking as the stories of children suffering from diseases like cancer in America’s own backyard. And, when the U.S. government cuts cancer-research funding at home while proposing $30 billion to fight AIDS in Africa, where are its priorities? Because of these cuts, the clinical trial that is keeping alive my son and countless other children may not get the funding to continue....

One of my objections to electronic books is the lack of the ability to browse before I decide to buy. The other one is the likelihood of advertising. In South Africa, TV programs are interrupted every 10 minutes by as many as six to eight ads, yet we still have to pay license fees. The Uncertainty of War Even if everything Colin Powell said is true, he did not demonstrate that Iraq poses an imminent threat to the United States or its allies (“Judging the Case,” Feb. 17). Therefore, he did not make the case for war. As for enforcing Resolution 1441, the U.N. Charter clearly states that U.N. resolutions cannot be enforced militarily without the explicit authorization of the Security Council. Without that authorization, an invasion of Iraq by the United States and its “coalition of the willing” would be a violation of international law....
Briedis received the Muhammad Ali Trophy after defeating Dorticos on Saturday in Munich, Germany, and on DAZN, with two judges scoring the fight 117-111 and the third having it 114-114.
