Maison Des Champs, who refers to himself as a “pro-life Spiderman,” was spotted climbing the Devon Tower in Oklahoma City, according to KFOR. The outlet reported that Des Champs has completed similar climbs in other cities, including San Francisco and New York.

The abortion debate has been a hot topic following the leak of a draft opinion from the Supreme Court in which it shows the court could potentially overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1970s decision that legalized abortion across the country.

In May, the Department of Homeland Security issued a warning about an increase of threats of violence if the Court overturns Roe v. Wade. One pro-choice activist last week allegedly told police that he wanted to kill Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Oklahoma City police told Newsweek that Des Champs isfacing a charge of trespassing.

In a press conference following Des Champs’ apprehension, police said they initially received a call about a man climbing on the outside of the tower at about 8:40 a.m.

Police and fire crews began setting up safety protocols, such as shutting down streets in the area, police said. Members of those emergency crews were then placed at the top of the building to coax him to either make his way back down the tower or to continue climbing up the building before he was eventually taken into police custody.

KFOR reported that Des Champs was streaming his climb up the 50-story tower on Instagram and that the purpose was to protest abortion. Des Champs reportedly did the climb without using any gear.

The Oklahoma City Police Department posted a number of messages on social media, including one in which it said it was aware of the man climbing the Devon Tower and advised the public to avoid the area downtown.

About a half-hour later, in a follow-up tweet, the police department mentioned that the “individual is in custody at top of building.”

Des Champs was being transported to the Oklahoma County Detention Center.

The climb was a first for Oklahoma City police, who said that the only similar situation the department has encountered was when someone base-jumped off the tower as it was being built.

They also said there was a second person questioned in connection to Des Champs. The person was there to film Des Champs’ climb.
