Earlier this year, photographer Chris Hamilton toured the camp. What impressed him most was the inhabitants’ courage. Their injuries and poverty have not kept them from building two mosques, a church and a school. “If it wasn’t for the heart of these people, this place would be even more horrific,” says Hamilton. One of his pictures shows a man sitting with a friend’s small daughter. She lost her arm to an RUF bullet. His hand was chopped off by a rebel machete. The man and the child are laughing.
