The annual prediction, using the latest version of Madden, was surprisingly accurate for its first seven years of existence, but it is batting only .500 over the last six years, according to Polygon. EA Sports revealed this year’s prediction on its YouTube page on Wednesday and if the video is to be believed, fans are in for a nail-biting finish on Sunday evening. The video posted by EA Sports claims the final play of the game will be a go-ahead touchdown pass from Patriots quarterback Tom Brady to receiver Julian Edelman on a 4th and 4 with 20 seconds left in the game.

Brady is predicted to take home the Super Bowl MVP award thanks to his 30 completions on 39 passing attempts for a total of 305 yards passing and three touchdowns. For what it’s worth, Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is predicted to pass for 287 yards and two touchdowns but will also throw an interception, according to the simulation. Standout Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones who had a huge game in the NFC Championship two weeks ago will be held to 89 yards receiving and will be kept out of the end zone.

The EA Sports simulation, which started with Super Bowl 38 in 2004, has served as quite the successful marketing tool for the Madden series over the years. In addition to picking the winner correctly in six of its first seven years, Madden NFL 15 also correctly predicted the exact final score of Super Bowl 49. That said, Madden dropped the ball with its prediction of last year’s Super Bowl 50, calling for a 27 to 24 Carolina Panthers victory over the Denver Broncos only to see the Broncos win the game 24 to 10. Madden’s predictions record going into Super Bowl LI now stands at 9 and 4 at picking the winner and 8 and 5 against the betting spread.

It’s worth noting that this simulation is anything but scientific, as EA uses only a single CPU vs. CPU game to get to its prediction. Still, it’s all in good fun and as long as Madden keeps picking more winners than losers, the simulation is likely to remain an anticipated part of Super Bowl week for years to come.

Madden NFL 17 is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Game Rant gave the game a 4 out of 5 in our review last year.
